Otay Mesa
IPS is committed to working with concerned community members and business owners to conduct Neighborhood and Business Safety Perception Surveys when they are requested in communities that may have an over-concentration of alcohol retailers to prevent alcohol-related harm including DUIs, domestic violence and sexual assaults.
The IPS South Bay Youth 4 Change (SBY4C) program collaborates with students from Montgomery Middle and High School to conduct Retail Operating Standard Assessments in Otay Mesa to determine if liquor, convenience and grocery stores are in compliance with conditions established on their business licenses. These operating standards help prevent and eliminate nuisance conditions at the premises and ensure a safer environment for the patrons and the neighboring community. The students receive receive community service hours, letters of recommendation to colleges, and media coverage for their exceptional work with SBY4C.
