Otay Mesa

IPS is committed to working with concerned community members and business owners to conduct Neighborhood and Business Safety Perception Surveys when they are requested by residents in the area. IPS conducts these surveys in neighborhoods that may have an over-concentration of alcohol retailers, in an effort to prevent alcohol-related harm including DUIs, domestic violence and sexual assaults.

The IPS South Bay Youth 4 Change (SBY4C) program collaborates with students from Montgomery Middle and High Schools to conduct Retail Operating Standard Assessments in Otay Mesa to determine if liquor, convenience and grocery stores are following conditions established on their business licenses. These operating standards help prevent and eliminate nuisance conditions on the premises and ensure a safer environment for the patrons and the neighboring community. The students receive community service hours, letters of recommendation to colleges, and media coverage for their exceptional work with SBY4C.
